Positive about Volunteering Conference
Volunteering Northumberland held its 3rd annual conference this year on 10th March at the Holiday Inn, Seaton Burn. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for those who have an interest in volunteer management to share, network and learn through the workshops and inspiring speakers. With over 50 delegates in attendance, the event was a great success.
The conference opened by Volunteering Northumberland Manager, Charles Tremeer, was themed ‘Positive About Volunteering’, and was designed to look at a range of issues with regard to volunteer management. Workshops included: How to make volunteering more inclusive, how to set up more flexible volunteering roles and taster days, Legal Issues in relation to Volunteer Rights and Responsibilities and Volunteering and Social Media. A number of organisation took the opportunity to promote their services in a market place and five organisations gave a 3 minute speed presentation on their organisation. The conference ended with an entertaining presentation from Mark Butcher on Top Tips for a Positive Future.
Volunteering Northumberland would like to thank all of its speakers and the organisations who attended.

Volunteering Northumberland receives its Accreditation
Volunteering Northumberland, the Volunteer Centre for the county, is pleased to announce that it has been quality accredited by Volunteering England for another three years. This award confirms that Volunteering Northumberland conducts the six core functions of a Volunteer Centre to the standard expected by Volunteering England, the national body relating to volunteering. Charles Tremeer, the Manager of Volunteering Northumberland, said: “We are happy to receive confirmation that we are producing a consistent, high quality service across the county, both for people who wish to volunteer and to those organisations that wish to utilise their services. Any individuals or organisations who would like to find out more about volunteering should contact us for details of the services we offer.
Positive About Volunteering Campaign
This year the volunteer centre development team have been out and about, encouraging volunteers to stand up and be counted. Volunteers have been asked to fill in a postcard with their name, their postcode, and what it is they do as a volunteer, or the organisation they volunteer with. The aim of the campaign is to make contact with and recognise
people that volunteer and raise awareness of Volunteering Northumberland.
The campaign began in North Northumberland in June at the Borders Green Festival in Berwick. Followed by a market stall in Berwick, Alnwick and the Glendale Festival. The festival held on Wooler High Street attracted numerous volunteers and proved to be a successful day. We also attended the two day Otterburn Show and made contact with
volunteers and organisations we hadn't met.
In September the Volunteering Northumberland team attended a charity information day at Northumberland County Council which enabled us to increase our profile amongst council workers. This was followed by the Environmental Festival at Paddocks Wood in East Ashington, and Bedlington Heritage Day, Ann Broome said “the day was blessed with sunshine and lots of eager children who are hopefully future volunteers!”. We received a lot of positive feedback from residents of Bedlington who are aware of the service offered by Wansbeck CVS. In October, the campaign moved to West Northumberland. The team attended a very muddy yet enjoyable Alwinton County Show on 9th October and will attend other events throughout the month.
If you would like to receive a postcard to hand to someone you know who volunteers in your community, please let us know.
