Volunteer SpotlightVolunteers at Woodhorn Narrow Gauge RailwayThe Partners in Supported Volunteering project, within Wansbeck CVS recently assisted two of their volunteers (Robert & Jamie) to access an opportunity to join the team at Woodhorn Narrow Gauge Railway as volunteer assistants. The Chairman from the railway, Les Chilton explained that their mission statement is “To interest, inform and educate members of the public in all aspects of a heritage, based around mining transportation.” They need volunteers to “learn and put into practice skills in the operation and maintenance of a narrow gauge railway”. Robert was keen to volunteer at Woodhorn and when this opportunity arose he was delighted. Robert said, “This is a new experience for me and it is lots of fun. The team are so enthusiastic.” Jamie added “They made us feel so welcome and we have had such an active role right from the start. We feel part of the team already.” |
